Painting from observation is to do with much more than simply representing what I see optically; painting is a matter of expressing how I feel about what I see.

Jonathan was born in South Africa, studied drawing and illustration at Falmouth University, and now lives near St. Andrews in Scotland.

He has exhibited work at the Fraser Gallery St. Andrews, Frames Gallery Perth, Open Eye Gallery Edinburgh, Mall Galleries London, Aberdeen Art Gallery, Beside the Wave Gallery in Falmouth, Falmouth Art Gallery and more. In 2022 he was accepted into the Aberdeen Art Society exhibition, in 2019 the Scottish Portrait Awards, in 2018 the Imagine Falmouth exhibition at Falmouth Art Gallery, and in 2017 the Hermione Hammond Drawing Award.
